_Sinopsis (Press note)
“Migratory tides” begins with the idea to provide from a creative work experience a new “wordless” way to speak about the migration problem, in this first action the collective “elojodearena” (theeyeofsand) took part on the border space between Africa and Canarias.
Oscar Rodríguez uses a new format to “talk” about the underground migration: an image reproduced at big scale on the sand of the beach. The same sand which is stepped on by all those who are willing to start their journey to achieve the Europe dream, and the same they step on when they return,if they are lucky enough to survive and get back home.
For the ilustration “elojodearena” (theeyeofsand) gathered together the drowings suggested by the inmigrants who were took in Las Palmas, some children and young people from Dakar after wondering about the question “What do you imagine Europe is?”.
The intervention in both shores (Las Palmas and Dakar) took place in full moon phase period. When the tide gets higher the images are blotted out by the sea. Nature and it’s actions are the perfect scenery for this proyect, which suggests us the metaphores and wisdom which humans have always searched for, specificly, in the sea.
As a result of this experience the collective “elojodearena” (theeyeofsand) supported by Casa África will perform a documentary and an exposure which will be opened at the “Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno”, CAAM (Atlantic Modern Art Center).
